2010 Official No Coast Sat.:R-Day Cruise

On Saturday August 21 we held the 2nd annual No Coast Sat.:R-Day R32 cruise. It was another good turnout with some new faces this year. Location difficulties that had nothing to do with us squashed our plans less than 2 weeks before the actual cruise. This caused us to make changes at the last minute which included changing the drive from Garden of the Gods to Cripple Creek to now cruising from Garden of the Gods to Pikes Peak. It was an early wakeup call for everyone on Saturday. The day began at 8:30 am at Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs. We then drove trough the beautiful Colorado countryside and then up to the top of Pikes Peak stopping to take photo's along the way. The scenery was great along the way and the only real drawback was the traffic which kept us from flying through the turns. Once we reached the top we encountered runners everywhere which were a part of the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon. We even watched a 75 year old man cross the finish line! Once everyone finished taking photos at the peak we decided it was time to head down. The ride down turned out to be the most eventful part of the day. Ian (aka Daemon42 on Vortex) had an unexpected issue right at the brake check station. His drivers side transmission mount had fallen off. One of the bolts had sheared off and the other one has become stripped out. With no tools around we gathered a widowmaker jack and a large rock. First we jacked the car up and then stuffed the rock under the transmission. Next we lowered the car back down until the rock pushed the transmission back up against the mount. Then we threaded the one good bolt back in by hand as tight as we could get it and limped the car the rest of the way down the mountain. The cruise ended at The Wines Of Colorado for food and drinks. It was a really nice restaurant where we had tables setup outside for us right by a stream. All of us were hungry as could be and this place did not dissapoint. We want to thank everyone that showed up, it was great getting to meet new people and hanging out with fellow .:R owners. Keep an eye out for this event next year as we plan on having the cruise in a different location up north in the mountains and we are hoping to attract some more people from out of town.
