Bonnevile World of Speed 2011

in

We attended Bonneville World of Speed this year with the strict intention of having fun.  We had unforeseen issues with our Turbo R32 not meeting some of the new tech requirements, so it was not ready in time and couldn't go for the record attempt.  We were, however, able to get three drives in the 800HP R32. Gabe Adams went out in the Utah Salt Flat Association's 150mph club reaching 192mph on the GPS, and Andrew Augustain and Chris Adams earned their first license in the 130mph club.

The 30,000 acres of salt flats have long been the place for racing.  The first unoffical land speed record (141.73mph) was set there in 1914.  By the 1950s, Bonneville was considered the place to break land speed records; in fact, the 300, 400, 500, and 600mph barriers we all broken on the salt flats in Utah.

One of our drivers expains the feeling of sitting in the driver's seat on the natural raceway: "Driving down the salt for the first time is like nothing I've ever experienced before, especially in a 800HP R32. The feeling of the car almost being wieghtless as it floats from side to side across the salt was really nerve wrecking, but as I approached the 1 mile mark spinning all four wheels at a 130 plus MPH, I couldnt help but smile."

Here are some pics of our team on the flats:
