The 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb entered it’s 96th year of racing into the clouds. This prestigious event entails approximately 12.42 miles of track, 156 turns, and over 4,000 feet in elevation change to the summit. Sead Causevic, racing the Bluewater built Mk5 Jetta, has been competing in the PPIHC for 5 years and counting. The last 3 years have been in the fully built, custom AWD swapped 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. This year we were lucky enough to have the entire Bluewater team down in the pits and staging area to support Sead, and it was an experience like no other. Between drooling over some amazing cars, meeting some famous drivers, and witnessing the Volkswagen I.D. R Electric Vehicle set a new PPIHC record, it was a day that none of us will soon forget. Not only did Volkswagen set an electric vehicle record, they also set a new overall record with a time of 7:57.148. This new record beat out the old record by 15 seconds which was set by Sebastian Lobe back in 2013.
Check out this awesome video that our Digital Media Specialist, Mike Witzer, created from our day at PPIHC 2018!
We also got some amazing 360° video from a roof mounted camera on the Mk5 Jetta, check it out below.
Here’s in car footage of Sead’s second run where we unfortuntely weren’t able to finish due to a vehicle crash on run 1 and 3/4th’s of the way through run 2 the vehicle overheated due to running almost 2 back to back full runs. Either way, we all had a blast and can’t wait for next year’s event!
